Oh, this brings back memories: 1987, first year medical degree, had to take a liberal studies subject, went for: “Women, Science and Society”, thinking I’d learn about women in science in different societies. How wrong was I! I learned nothing of the kind. Instead, we were told by purple wearing lesbians about women being assaulted for not smiling. Even as a naive young woman I didn’t think pitting one sex against the other was a sound idea. Later on, I didn’t have to do mental gymnastics when I married and had my sons.
