The first two excerpts focused on how men are different in their healing from loss. This excerpt starts to tell the story of the way men use action in their healing.
Healing Actions
When I first started noticing the healing actions of my clients I also noticed that these actions were things that they were doing automatically and without prompting or encouragement. This is very similar to the feminine side of healing where people will naturally talk about their loss as a means to heal but don't think of their talking as a healing action, they just do it. The same can be said for the masculine side. As I started noticing that some people used actions as a means of working with their grief, I began to see that these actions could be broken down into three basic categories. The three categories are practical actions, creative actions and thinking actions. A section on each of these categories with multiple examples is below.
Practical Action Michael Jordan
Sometimes the action that helps the man to tell his story and to help connect him with his loss is a very practical matter. One of the most common is when the man uses his work as a means to tell his story. That’s what Michael Jordan did.
