I just rid myself of three last week; trying to reason with them or engage in any meaningful way is a waste of time. They hate us (me) and nothing will change that. No matter that you have been polite, respectful, "inclusive," considerate.
I have bigger fish to fry. I simply tell them now, "OK - we'll just do it by force." Good enough.
Its much better to have friends who are at least respectful of you as a human being.

I always admired Meg Whitman who, when asked about her legendary grace and poise, said that her granny told her that there was never a situation that justified being nasty. I have at least one (female) acquaintance who can set boundaries when attacked and do it without being nasty, and I marvel at HER poise, too.
I always try to keep that sort of calm, but sometimes don't get it done. I always look back and wonder if I should have defended myself more aggressively or just let it pass. My "friends" I think have taken advantage of the "let it pass."

Well, those sorts of people don't WANT to be above it all and take niceness as lack of resolve - and they therefore don't respect you. Now that I understand how little they respect me, I'll handle it aggressively - if we ever have contact again. I won't "ghost" them - that's what libs do - but should they ever contact me, it'll be By God tit for tat. I certainly will never initiate contact with them again.
