The underlying genetic differences leading to the differential skills distributions of men and women are surely the result of natural selection. Whereas it was important that the female be basically competent to produce and raise children and help with the gathering of food, the men needed higher physical and mental skills to overcome the more complex and time sensitive tasks involved in hunting relative to gathering. They also needed men who might not be that smart but were physically capable and biologically driven to sacrifice themselves for the group so both low and high IQ and other skills would be favored to some degree for men but less so for women.
Where precarious manhood comes in is that men not only are status driven but that status must be publicly EARNED. Status granted without being earned is NOT respected and actually can undermine a man. The opposite is true with women, particularly feminist women. They also are very status conscious...but it is mostly UNEARNED status. This is why the biggest beneficiaries of affirmative action by far have been white women yet we have not seen a windfall of societal benefits from increasing numbers of women as CEO's, scientists, professors, etc. While many have obtained high ranking positions, rarely have they done so PURELY on merit alone and women seem quite willing to be GRANTED status by entitlement rather than purely on the merits. This is also why women often complain that men don't respect their accomplishments as they should....but fail to realize that they are often to blame for this because the men realize that the women's status was given by entitlement and not actually by merit. The most obvious examples of this come from sports. The women's soccer, hockey, basketball, swilling, etc. teams in college and the pros want to see themselves and be rewarded as if they were equal to their male counterparts, when the results of these human endeavors are simply NOT anywhere near equal. The great service the trans community has provided with their crossing of biological men and women into the others sports has been to make clear this distinction. When Lia Thomas, a mediocre college swimmer, can walk into women's swimming and tie the national leader who is a woman, then clearly there are a lot of men who are simply better swimmers than even the best women. One sees this is in other areas of society where physical attributes are not in play.
Feminism is in great part the effort by women to get unearned status and benefits from areas of society where men must compete purely on the merits. Yes, there are women who are amazing and can compete...but their accomplishments are undermined by the feminist push for unearned benefits which call their work into question.
Why? Chromosomes and testosterone. To what purpose? Fulfillment of nature's requirements: maximize survival strategies. And which behaviors in women serve those purposes? Aversion to risk-taking, concern for kindness and fairness, hypergamy, cheating on one's partner - so that one's offspring inherit the DNA, ambition and aggressiveness of the Bad Boy but are provisioned by the Good, Reliable, but boring cuckolded man.
For men? Extremes that let them explore and conquer the world. And what if they are killed because of that behavior? Individual men are expendable; one man can fertilize thousands of eggs if, for example, he's Genghis Khan or Sultan Moulay. It's quite common for women to marry conquerors, often the man who killed their husband.
What weapon do women have to protect themselves? Wiles used to corral and direct that man while taking advantage of his aggressiveness for protection. As my older brother used to say, "Little girls take in deceit with their mothers' milk."

"So you would destroy the system that gives you electricity, clean water, tarred roads, a health care system, a police force, a fire station, an ambulance service, you could say goodbye to automobiles, safe air travel and start experiencing famines again"
