Not surprising but discouraging. The study shows that teachers succeed in transferring their negative opinion of boys to their students. This punishes boys for being who they are. The teacher's behavior silently rewards girls and, worse, elevates them in the eyes of their peers. No doubt the teachers are predominantly female. Two things should be noted. As the left never tires of reminding us, disruption is creative--but not in boys, it seems. The other thing is that the article does not (so far as I remember) note what percentage of elementary school teachers are female--estimates range from 80-90%. Women have taken over teaching at this level; teacher selection at other levels has favored women for decades. Their prejudice against boys is vain and self-serving, insecure women puffing themselves up. Their behavior likely to encourage the behavior the teachers so dislike in boys. Rejected boys don't just hang their heads; some of them become more defiant, and with good reason. If a girl rebels, that's good. If a boy does it, well, guess.
