helloo all

I just remembered a classic article -- how I got my wikipedia entry cleaned up. my friends down the street in "the movement" vandalized my entry by claiming that I was a Harvey Weinstein in the first paragraph. They also managed to get me banned from editing the encyclopedia for two years based on a comment I made on my TALK page, which you can still find if you navigate back to late 2018. (Note that when your entry is a hot topic, you cannot edit it yourself. And I did not -- I commented behind the article in the editorial discussion — that is what the TALK area is for.)

So I wrote this article below, then made a new identity, and went to the BLP editors' discussion area -- where disputes over "biographies of living persons" are discussed. I said you have to see this, posted the article and said you better correct the entry, it violates BLP and is libelous. It was fixed within an hour.

This is exactly how you do it. Wikipedia is rather strict about BLPs, but it also has a lot of ideologues of a particular bent who have most of it under their thumb.

right you cannot just edit. you have to get admins involved and the decision has to come from higher up — and not be by the subject. they know the encyclopedia can get in big trouble if BLPs are violated and there is a libel suit. Very bad look and their insurance may not get renewed.

Yes. Though it doesn't have to be an admin as per policy, but in practice, their actions and edits are simply more likely to stick because they can shut down edit warring on an article.

these days admins are challenging me on BS minor edits, and they don't know who I am...that debacle was many IP addresses ago.

Sounds like I need a body cam just to walk out of my studio and be safe from any potential #metoo problems. (Somebody please buy a painting so I can afford to order one!) On a serious note, you don't need to be publicly falsely accused of mischief. It happens privately, too: my own feminist family members have accused me of malevolence based upon absolutely nothing but man-hating motivations.

Excellent points. Document, record, stand your ground, be sure you feel totally OK about your own story. Damn, the idea of being "accused" of wanting to pet people's dogs, or talking about polyamory, or ...making people uncomfortable. As if just talking about certain topics doesn't make all sorts of people "uncomfortable," like poverty, imperialism, genocide in Gaza, 9/11, Operation "Convid,":......
